Audley Dance Hall

History of Audley Dance Hall

The Audley Dance Hall is a multipurpose facility located in the picturesque and tranquil Royal National Park, on Sydney’s south-eastern outskirts.

The Dance Hall was first established in 1949 by the Australian military who built it as a gift to the local community, following the military’s use of the national park as a training ground. Originally, the Dance hall was built for musical events, dances and for general visitation to the National park. The Dance Hall underwent significant refurbishments in 2010 and was restored to its former glory, and kept in line with the period of its initial construction.

The Dance Hall is located on the edges of the Port Hacking River and offers magnificent views of the river and surrounding area. Its pristine location, while only 45 minutes from the city but feeling like another world, has made it a very popular destination for weddings. The Audley Dance hall can seat up to 206 visitors, and features air conditioning, modern audio-visual and full disabled access, making it a perfect destination for any wedding, group or corporate event.  In addition to the dance hall itself, there is a large sheltered outdoor area, perfect for larger events during good weather.

The Dance Hall also features a café and restaurant, which is open throughout the day and serve a variety of foods, including all day breakfast and more refined meals to suit a variety of tastes among visitors. The restaurant is operated by Richard Mallam and James Lancaster, two long-time friends and chefs with great experience operating restaurants around the world. Richard and James’ lease at the site commenced in 2014 and were also behind its renaming, from the Audley Room to the Audley Dance Hall and Café.

Within short walking distance of the Audley Dance hall is the Audley Boatshed, where visitors can rent out paddle boats along Kangaroo Creek on the Port Hacking River. The Audley Boatshed is also a historic structure, dating back to the time of the Dance Hall’s construction.
