The Office of Transport Safety Investigations (OTSI) has recently released a Bus Safety Report relating to bus fires in New South Wales in 2015.  The report provides a summary of the information gathered by OTSI pertaining to bus fires reported in 2015 and commentary on comparisons with information reported in previous years.  The report also briefly records further progress in implementation of recommendations made in the report regarding bus fires in 2005-2012.

All bus and coach operators in NSW need to have in place a Safety Management System (SMS) as a condition of their accreditation.  The Bus Safety Report may provide assistance to enhance work practices and procedures for improving the safety of bus operation pertaining to bus fires.

Information from the report states that 42% of bus fires originate from the brakes. Shire Shuttle Buses have fire extinguishers installed on all buses.
